Aircraft are equipped with the next
generation FLIR Systems STAR Safire II gyrostabilized imaging system. For this
application, they are equipped with a standard color CCD zoom camera, a spotting
scope and a 3-5micron infrared imaging system.
Each sensor has it's function during operational missions. The telescope serves well for
detailed target observation at distances up to 5 nautical miles, the color CCD
is used primarily to close range or wide field scene observation and the
infrared camera is primarily used for nighttime target classification.
We are the proud owners of serial #'s 1, 2 and 3 of this system and have experienced
excellent performance from these units. There are no other similar systems in the
World that get as many hours in a single year as we put on them. Simply put, we know
them inside and out.
