Our relationship with
the Government of Canada is not unique around the World. There are
many countries such as Australia that utilize private contractors
for domestic surveillance operations of various kinds, including but
not limited to fisheries, pollution, counter narcotics and search
and rescue.
Although traditionally performed
by military and paramilitary operators, in a world of challenging
budget conscious governments, these kinds of operations allow
defense forces to concentrate their assets and resources on real
national defense issues. The bridges that are built, however between
these operators and the defense forces is critical. They are an
incredible source of information that can be used by the military
forces as an additional resource to contribute to maritime
intelligence and thus assist in future mission planning and more
cost-effective defense resource deployment.
